Alexandrite (Mysterious) Map Monster Listings and Info
So here's a couple things I can tell about these Mysterious Maps
1) It appears 1 alexandrite drops per map, so you are expected to solo these maps. (I am not sure if the alexandrite is a lotable item, if someone can confirm this, that would help greatly)
2) These fights can actually be fairly difficult, especially when you don't know what to expect.
With this said, I figured I'd start a listing of potential monster spawns that can appear for these said alexandrite maps. I've done three maps as of now, and this is what I got. Do note that I am a BLM, so some of my strategies may be biased by a BLM's PoV:
General Notes:
Most (If not all) monsters from these maps are immune to sleep and heavy. I've tried my Sleep spell and Lethargy on these mobs, and they didn't stick due to full resistance.
You CAN use your chocobo companions to help you out for these maps, which can help a great deal (My chocobo is a healer chocobo).
Set 1
Monster set: 1 Woad Back, 1 Gold Back, 1 Wine Back (All Cockatrice-type enemies).
Location: Mor Dhona
Details: As a BLM, I take roughly 70-80 damage per auto-attack. The thing about this fight is that each monster has an insta-cast conal breath attack. Woad Back has petrification, Gold Back has paralysis, and Wine Back has poison (Dealt roughly 100-120 damage per tick). Each effect lasts 20 seconds, iirc.
Strategy: **** order is important, as well as **** speed. Woad Back needs to die ASAP for the sake of taking less petri-breath attack. Paralysis can be annoying to deal with, and poison wasn't a big deal for me. Just burn the Woad Beak ASAP, using your Cooldowns if you have to. You might eat 1 petribreath, but the sooner he's out of the picture, the better your chances of winning are. **** order is as follows: Woad --> Gold --> Wine.
Set 2
Monster Set: 4 Dire Gargoyles
Location: Central Shroud
Details: These things never auto-attack. Instead, they follow a pattern, they started with Grim Fate, which is a fairly large conal AoE in front of them (I'd assume you'd take heavy damage), following that with Desolation, a large line attack in front of them (Also assuming heavy damage). They repeat this until either you die or they die.
Strategy: Just dodge and ****. Don't be greedy on getting attacks in and focus 1 target at a time. The less gargoyles that are left, the less you have to dodge.
Set 3
Monster Set: 1 Morbol Menace
Location: Eastern Thanalan
Details: This thing can hit fairly hard for just a single enemy (Hits me for roughly 230-250 per auto-attack). The thing about this enemy is that he will utilize a Vine Probe + Bad Breath combo. Vine Probe is an instant-cast move that will deal a moderate amount of damage (500-700 to me) + a very strong bind effect (30 seconds before resistance). He immediately follows this move up with Bad Breath, which puts a ton of status ailments on you for a large amount of time (ranges from roughly 6-30 seconds depending on the ailment).
Strategy: As a BLM, I'm lucky to have Physic, otherwise I was probably not going to survive. Unless if I'm missing something I don't know, BLM's don't really have a way to deal with bind effects, so I just had to eat his Vine Probe + Bad Breath Combo. With that said though, this is more of a test of survival for me if anything. I healed myself when the time came, and after dealing with 2 Vine Probe combos, The bind was short enough where I was able to run out of the way of the Bad Breath. Just keep hitting it. If your job has ways of dealing with bind, use them. It'll help put the fight more in your favor.
That's all I have now. If there's anything else I missed about these monster sets, or if you have other monster sets, feel free to mention them, as these can greatly help those hunting these maps. Thanks for reading! ^
