Windows 8.1 + Nvidia SLI = Slow motion
Hello there, I have been running into an issue with FF14 and SLI. Pretty much the game runs great, 100+ FPS, and then during certain fights, I have observed my FPS dip a bit (about 20 FPS loss), and then spike back up. During this dip though, it's still above 60 FPS, and the game goes into what I can only describe as "Slow motion" for about 1-2 seconds. It's almost as if I am Neo in The Matrix, and start to dodge the bullets. That kind of slow motion.
Currently I am running: Windows 8.1 Pro i7 4770k OC @ 4.2 GHz 32 GB of DDR3 RAM 128 GB SSD (OS + Game) EVGA 780 FTW x2 in SLI
I have tried a few things to try and resolve this issue.
1) Changed the SLI rendering mode from Split screen to AFR (alternate frame rendering). No luck
2) Disabled and disconnected my secondary monitor. No luck.
3) Removed and re-installed all Nvidia drivers, and made sure my motherboard drivers are up to date. No luck
4) Monitor heat, power usage, and GPU load, it's all normal. GPU Load is even, about 70% each GPU, heat is about 70'C, and Power usage is steady.
5) Disabled SLI and only used one GPU: This works... but cuts my FPS down on average.
6) Lowering my i7 Clock speed to stock. No luck.
7) I have also attempted using other SLI profiles such as the F.E.A.R 3 SLI profile while using Nvidia Inspector. No luck there either.
And a few other things here and there, pretty much SLI disabled is the only way to stop this.
I noticed it happens during ST, and during Titan EX. I haven't had a chance to test anywhere else much since I noticed it first happened there, and wanted to repeat the test.
I was reading about Windows 8.1 causing people problems with SLI and wanted to find out if any of you are having the same problems. I may end up just reverting back to Windows 7 this weekend, but I have gotten used to 8.1 and would prefer not to go through the hassle of installing a fresh OS.
Anyone else run into this?
I should mention, FF14 is the only game that this happens in. I have tested Guild Wars 2, Crysis 3, Dark Souls II, Metro Last Light, and Titanfall, and none of those other games have this issue.
Thanks!
