Black Mages and Summoners, a plea from a tank.
For the love of god, level Archer to 34 for Quelling strikes, especially if you have relic/+1. I see black mages especially complaining about the inability of a tank to hold threat off of them when they unload, and every single time I look at their classes, Archer is rarely over 15, and never up to 34.
I love the damage a good BLM/SMN can put out, but good LORD do you guys get a ton of aggro quickly... and honestly, I don't care as long as:
a) You ripping threat didn't slow the group down (much)
b) You don't complain about the tank because you ripped threat.
But please... get Quelling Strikes.
Thank you.
EDIT:
Some clarification: This doesn't mean you should have to use Quelling Strikes as the only hold-out you have against not pulling threat... if that is the case, there are some threat generation issues on the part of your tank. If you are however, for example, popping Raging Strikes (Which has a longer cooldown than Quelling Strikes for non bards, and the same cooldown as Quelling for bards, would you look at that? That's some crazy coincidence right there) why not use both? In fact... here, let's make a macro really quick to make it REALLY easy
/macroicon "Raging Strikes" /ac "Quelling Strikes" <me> /ac "Raging Strikes" <me>
Now you have one button that you just need to hit (a couple times) before unloading with some massive damage, and the tank won't suddenly wonder where the hell the aggro you are generating came from. Your tank doesn't know that you're using Raging Strikes unless you tell them, so they don't know to prepare for it. If you using Quelling Strikes at the same time, they might not even notice.
What I'm really asking BLMs, SMNs, (and Bards too while we're on the subject...) to do is use all the tools they have available to them to reduce the aggro they generate while they are increasing the amount of damage they generate. There is a reason that both Quelling and Raging strikes are cross-classed from the same class, and have cooldowns that synergize with eachother, why not capitalize on this and maximize damage without giving the tank a heart attack when they're jumping between targets to build threat?
